Introduction
Examinations and Grading Standards
Your final grade in the course will be based on your performance on the lesson quizzes, the lesson assignments, the midterm examination, and the final examination. The grading scale for the course will be the following:
Percent | Grade |
---|---|
99–100 | A+ |
92–98 | A |
90–91 | A−minus |
88–89 | B+ |
82–87 | B |
80–81 | B−minus |
78–79 | C+ |
72–77 | C |
70–71 | C−minus |
68–69 | D+ |
62–67 | D |
60–61 | D−minus |
0–59 | F |
Your lesson assignment average will count as 30 percent of your total course grade. Remember, your lab experiments are part of several lesson assignments. Your lesson quiz average will count as 10 percent of your total course grade. Your midterm exam grade will be weighted to account for 30 percent of the final course grade. The grade on the final will constitute 30 percent of your course grade.
You are required to earn an average of at least a D−minus (60%) on the examinations in order to pass the course. Upon completing the midterm examination, you will be given an evaluation of your work based on the four lesson assignments and the midterm exam.
The time allotted on each of the examinations is a maximum of two hours. When taking the examination, you will not be permitted to use your textbook, course guide, study notes, or other supplementary material. Calculators will be permitted during each exam and you will be provided with a copy of the periodic table and a chemistry reference sheet of formulas, constants, and conversions.
In grading your lessons, we attempt to minimize turn-around time, but there are always possible situations that may delay your receipt of feedback. It is wise for you to await the feedback of one lesson before submitting the next. Questions over some lessons depend upon knowledge learned in a previous lesson. If you have the corrected material available, perhaps a subsequent error can be eliminated.
